Science Technician of the Year!

Huge congratulations to UTC Oxfordshire’s brilliant science technician Katrina – Kat – Cornell who has won the Philip Harris Science Technician of the Year!

Philip Harris is a Cheshire-based company that supplies science departments with equipment, advice and technician-to-technician support. It launched the technician award in 2022 to recognise the important contribution that technicians make to science education and school life.

From over 40 entries, Kat stood out for her commitment to inspiring the next generation of scientists through volunteering as a STEM Ambassador, and for her support of other technicians across the country, sharing her knowledge and tips freely to benefit others.

On her win, Kat said: “I am honoured to receive this award. To receive this kind of recognition from the technician community means the world to me and is a huge confidence boost. I have to thank Kieran Hughes and Emma Reynolds for their support as I went through training to become a CPD Facilitator during the autumn term, and their ongoing encouragement as I started presenting workshops at various conferences. I am so grateful I get to do what I love as part of my job and I hope next year brings along more of the same.”
