A Year 13 history student from The Bicester School is celebrating after winning the Charles de Lisle Prize from Oxford University.
Atheel worked on her essay having attended the UNIQ summer school at the university. Her prize-winning essay is titled: ‘Why did some women become militant in their demands for the vote after 1905?’
The Charles de Lisle Essay Prize, launched in 2024, is a prize for A-level students doing History or Classics on the UNIQ summer school at Oxford University. It has been funded and inspired by Charles de Lisle, the political journalist,. who left some money for a prize in his will, along with the wish that it should be used to encourage “excellence in writing” among A-level students at state schools.
We are delighted that Atheel is one of the first winners of this prize and very proud!
